Direct payments worth up to $100s are available to tens of thousands of Americans - see the exact deadline and how to apply

The high gas prices can be offset to some extent by thousands of Americans taking action.

In Missouri, eligible drivers can claim gas tax refunds starting this month for the period October 1, 2021, through June 30, 2022.

It will depend on how often you go to the pump how much you can get back.

One driver in the state, Chuck Vogelsang, fills up his gas tank twice a week.

Since October of last year, he has been saving his gas receipts.

"You can get anywhere from 14 dollars to a couple hundred back, which could help you buy more fuel and feed your family," Chuck told KSDK.

The deadline and how to claim

The Missouri Department of Revenue (DOR) requires applications for gas rebates by September 30.

The total gasoline gallons for each vehicle during the eligible period must be provided along with the vehicle identification number.

Receipts should be in hand when you make a purchase.

A refund is available for cars weighing less than 26,000 pounds.

KSDK reports that 3,175 claims for gas refunds have been received by the DOR as of July 15.

The DOR warns that applying incorrectly, omitting required information

Or multiplying prices by the wrong number are all common mistakes to avoid.

Additionally, Missouri drivers should be aware that the gas tax will increase every year by two and a half cents until 2025.

By then, the gas tax in the state will be 29 cents per gallon.
