A new $1.4 million pot will provide Americans with monthly payments of $400 - find out if you qualify

Under a new plan, a new group of Americans will receive $400 monthly payments.

According to local news outlet NorthJersey, it is part of a Paterson, New Jersey budget proposal that would use more than $46million of American Rescue Act money.

A total of $1.4 million would be allocated for direct payments each month.

In the city, 110 low-income families received $400 per month through debit cards as part of the initial guaranteed income program.

Who would be eligible?

The proposal would require another round of applications for monthly payments, although the exact details have not been confirmed yet.

The following qualifications were required under the previous program:

2. Income must not exceed $30,000 for singles and $88,000 for families

1. Be 18 years old or older

The income details may remain the same or change slightly.

The Sun's request for comment was not answered by Mayor André Sayegh's office.

A new lottery will be held for the program, according to NorthJersey.

Paterson accepted online applications from April 12 to April 30 last year.

The budget will be voted on and a hearing will be held on August 16.

There are also guaranteed income programs in dozens of cities across the country.

In Mount Vernon, New York, you can apply for one program right now.

The program will give $500 per month to 200 randomly selected qualifying residents for a year.
