In an effort to expedite the process of those returns, the IRS is going to finally clear its backlog of 8 Million 

Original returns from 2021 this week. Tax returns submitted by individuals are called original returns. 

The backlog the IRS will clear will include entries without errors. A separate backlog of amended returns

Where filers have to provide new information to complete their returns after filing, has also been affecting

the agency's ability to resolve the backlog. It is likely that Americans who have been waiting for refund checks 

will be relieved of that backlog. In a world where 75% of filers receive refunds annually, the backlog has meant 

Big delays in checks, especially for people who file their returns on paper. According to national taxpayer advocate Erin Collins

filers had been waiting for months for their returns to be processed. "Many" taxpayers haven't received their refunds yet, 

According to Collins' annual report to Congress. The agency worked on mountains of paper returns 

And correspondence, and as a result, some taxpayers have been waiting for their refunds for nine months. 

Collins said in the release of the report that paperwork is the IRS's Kryptonite.
