You have until tomorrow to apply for $500 monthly direct payments from $1.2 million pot - are you eligible?

A 12-month guaranteed income pilot program is now open to thousands of Americans, but the deadline is rapidly approaching.

Mount Vernon, New York, will send $500 monthly payments to 200 residents for a year through Mayors for a Guaranteed Income.

Online applications are due by August 5 at 11.59pm for eligible residents.

As part of the pilot program, called Level Up, Mount Vernon residents will receive cash while

The extra income is studied simultaneously. Households must earn at least $15,000 per year to qualify.

In order to qualify, families must make less than 80% of the county's average income.

Additionally, residents will be able to apply physically in city locations until midnight on Friday.

The pilot program for universal basic income will select 200 eligible applicants at random after the deadline passes.

There is a possibility that the city will change the timeline by the end of August.

As part of the program, households selected for participation will also be asked to

Complete surveys about their overall health and well-being. Mayor Shawyn Patterson

Howard said Mount Vernon is committed to building a dignity economy.

I am delighted to join a coalition of innovative and forward-thinking mayors who are not

afraid of pushing for critical resources for their communities. I fully support guaranteed income for residents.

No strings will be attached to payments, and participants can spend the money however they like.

Pre-loaded debit cards will be used to pay participants, so a bank account isn't required.

Approximately $1.2 million will be spent on the program, according to the Rockland Westchester Journal News.
