Are you unsure if you're owed stimulus payments? What you need to know

Americans might not know they are still due another stimulus check - but luckily there's a simple way to find out.

It would apply to the latest round of stimulus checks worth up to $1,400 in total.

As long as the Americans' incomes are $75,000 or less, or $150,000 for couples, they qualify for the maximum payment.

The $1,400 check starts to phase out after those thresholds and is then capped at $80,000 and $160,000.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) had issued more than 175 million third-round stimulus checks by December 2021.

While most Americans have received their third stimulus payment, a few groups may still be owed money.

The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration reported in March that more than 645,000 people were missing stimulus payments.

As well as the number of people in each group who didn't receive their payment, this includes the following information:

Affected 419,822 individuals with an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)

Exclusion eligible for unemployment benefits - affecting 133,578 people

51,639 individuals falsely identified as US territory residents

39,666 individuals had filed changes or unresolved conditions on their tax accounts

You can check if you're eligible for more stimulus money if you fit into these categories.

In 2021, Americans should have received two important letters regarding stimulus and child tax credit payments.

On your 2021 tax return, the letter "6475," relating to stimulus payments, determines whether you can claim the recovery rebate credit.

A letter detailing how to claim the money is included in the letter.

There are other ways you can check your stimulus money if you didn't receive it or threw it away by mistake.
