See exact dates of the new August $1,657 direct payment drop in the COLA Social Security payment schedule for 2022

Within the next few weeks, Social Security beneficiaries will receive the latest round of cost-of-living-adjustment checks.

Social Security recipients received the biggest COLA increase since 1982 in January.

Payments from the Social Security Administration (SSA) are sent out on the second, 

third, and fourth Wednesdays of each month, depending on your birthday

1. August 10 if your birthday is between the 1st and 10th

2. August 17 if your birthday is between the 11th and 20th

3. August 24 if your birthday is the 21st or later

When seniors file jointly and receive the maximum benefits of $4,194 per month, they will receive $8,388.

Those filing jointly and collecting the average Social Security benefit of $1,657 will receive a combined boost of $3,314.

Ida May Fuller of Ludlow, Vermont, received the first Social Security payment in January 1940 for $22.54.

The previous year, Fuller retired from her job as a legal secretary.

Three years were paid into the program by her.

At the age of 100, Fuller collected benefits until she died in 1975.
