Find out when you'll get your IRS tax refund in 2022 and how to track it

There have been more than 96 million tax refunds delivered this year, but millions of Americans are still waiting.

This year, we have outlined when to expect your refund and how to track it.

In addition, we have highlighted a few dates you should circle on your calendar.

When is the federal tax deadline in 2022?

Tax returns for individuals are typically due on April 15.

Nevertheless, this year's date coincides with Emancipation Day in Washington, D.C., when it was observed.

The weekday closest to the 16th is observed if it falls on a weekend, as it did this year.

Therefore, the deadline for filing individual taxes penalty-free was Monday, April 18, 2022.

You must have received your W-2 from your employer in order to file your taxes.

Contact HR if your employer or former employer hasn't sent you a W-2 yet.

How to track tax refunds?

On the IRS website, you can check your refund status at Where's My Refund.

Tax return statuses are only updated once a day during the week by the IRS. It usually happens between midnight and 6am.

Your refund should be issued in less than three weeks if you file your return electronically, and faster if you choose direct deposit.

When are tax refunds paid out?

You can expect to receive your refund between six and eight weeks after filing a paper return.

As of July 8, there were 11.2 million unprocessed individual tax returns according to the IRS.
