According to studio estimates, "Jurassic World Dominion" took a hefty bite out of the box office with $143.4 million

in North American ticket sales. Jurassic World Dominion, released by Universal Pictures worldwide, has already grossed $389 million,

including earnings from international showings. It's only the beginning.

Universal's domestic distribution head Jim Orr says he couldn't be happier with the results.

There was a very wide and outrageously enthusiastic audience for 'Jurassic World Dominion'."

As the summer box office continues to rebound, this hefty haul is further proof of that. As a result of blockbuster successes like

"Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness," "Top Gun: Maverick," and now "Jurassic World 3," moviegoers are returning to theaters more often.

Starting with previews Thursday, the film opened on 4,676 screens in the U.S. and Canada, with a reported $185 million price tag,

not counting marketing and promotion costs. According to Universal, 56% of the audience was male and 54% over the age of 25.

According to exit polls, audiences seem to be enjoying the dino spectacular, despite criticism. Rotten Tomatoes gave

it an audience score of 81% and an A- CinemaScore, which indicates that word of mouth will be strong.
