According to the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U), the Consumer Price Index rose 0.3% in April, 

and the Consumer Price Index for all items increased 8.3% over the past twelve months. 

Social Security has increased its cost-of-living benefits by 5.9% over the past 40 years due to inflation.

You will receive your payment on Wednesday, June 8, if your birthday falls on the 1st-10th of the month.

Your payment is distributed on Wednesday, June 22 if your birthday is between the 21st and 31st.

According to The Senior Citizens League (TSCL) and GOBankingRates, Social Security benefits have increased by 64% since 2000. 

Mary Johnson, TSCL's social security policy analyst, found that expenditures for average seniors increased 130% during that time frame. 

Social Security benefits would have to be increased by $540 per month to maintain the same purchasing power from 2000.

The increase could be even greater next year. During the year 2023, Johnson predicted an annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) of 8.6%.
