Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients

will receive two payments in September.

This year, the average SSI claimant receives $621 per month in

benefits due to the 5.9% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA).

Monthly payments are capped at $841 per individual.

The number of people who depend on SSI benefits is approximately eight million.

A third change will be made to the SSI payment schedule

under the new COLA next month. The most recent one occurred in April,

when the first of the month (the day benefits are usually sent out) fell on a weekend.

As a result, SSI beneficiaries are eligible for two payments in a month when this occurs.

A total of $1,682 will be distributed in September to

SSI claimants through two checks worth the same amount.

Because October 1 falls on a Saturday, there will be a disruption to the payment schedule.

Due to this, benefits are scheduled to be

issued on the Friday before the weekend.
