Updates on student loans:  Will they be deferred again?

According to the White House, President Joe Biden is currently deciding whether

to extend the pause on federal student loan payments or to forgive them completely.

A few months after extending the COVID-19 pandemic moratorium on federal student loan payments and

interest accrual, Biden is expected to make a final decision by August.

Karine Jean-Pierre, White House press secretary, said he would make a decision.

Many Americans across the country are impacted by this and the president understands

from personal experience how burdensome it can be. This is why he took the action he did

when it came to pausing repayment. According to economic adviser Brian Deese,

the president spoke about the timeline on this issue when discussing Biden's potential decision.

Is Biden likely to extend the pause on student loan payments?

As of now, it is unclear what action will be taken. A spokesperson for the Department of Education told

The Hill that they are still assessing the situation. The Department of Education will continue to assess

the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the economy on student loan borrowers,

According to a spokesperson. After a decision is made, we will communicate directly

with borrowers about the end of the payment pause."
